It’s like we were watching two different debates! God, it makes me so angry. But worse, it makes me feel helpless.
I live in Spain and so, as can be expected, the news on TV is in Spanish. To watch news in English, I have to turn to satelite television. Unfortunately, the only news channel available here is Fox News. Probably because it was the cheapest channel to purchase.
I watched the debate tonight (3am local time) and, as during the first debate, I felt so bad for Mr. Bush who came across as ignorant, sloppy, and lame. Ha had nothing intelligent to offer and found himself stumbling to repeat himself just to fill the dead air that was left after his stock 10 second answers. And then, when the debate was over, the color commentary began. The Fox News spin doctors claimed that Bush had won the debate in a landslide. I get this tight feeling in my chest. I start to notice how I’m not getting enough oxygen and I breathe deeper. I imagine the poor American people who watch this rubbish and take it as gospel. And these people exist. It’s shameful that this “news” station is as popular as it is in the US. They will repeat a catch phrase over and over and over again until people actually start to believe it – whether it’s true or false! Bush won the debate; the economy is strong; Kerry is a flip-flopper; Americans are safer now than they were four years ago. If you relied on these biased politicians for your news, you’d end up believing these lies. It truly makes me sad.
Hopefully Bush doesn’t get too carried away with dealing with the problem of Iran, then North Korea, and after that…
Kerry seems like he’d be a much better leader, one who has the ability to reflect on, and learn, from past mistakes. But then I guess there must be a good reason why US citizens would vote for a guy who sends your country into a $450 billion deficit, while promoting pre-emptive strikes as a means towards achieving world peace. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is shaking it’s head…
