Doing the Math

And the wedding planning goes on. This week we looked at a bunch of different restaurants and masias (country homes) in Barcelona, Sabadell, San Cugat, and La Garriga. There are tons of great places out there, but they all come with a price. And that price may be more than we can afford. But what can we afford? That is the question.

If we want anything half-decent that doesn’t include a serve yourself buffet with paper napkins and plastic forks, we’re looking at around 10,000€. That hurts. Granted, this is the entire package. The whole shebang. Ceremony, dress, tux, flowers, reception, appetizers, alcohol, meal, DJ, band, etc.

The big killer is the meal. Most places charge around 80€ a head. Multiply that by 100 guests and we’ll be on the same page. Luckily, Can Cortada, one of the closest and most beautiful places we’ve seen, has menus starting at around 62€ a head. Not exactly cheap, but we’re getting there. The only problem with this place is that, since we want to do this in the evening, we’d have to start at around 8pm and finish by 1:30am. Other places told us we could run the joint from 6pm to 3am! Now that’s a lot of dancing – and exactly what Jan wants. We’ll see. We’re hoping to have a place (and a date) reserved by sometime next week. We’re wheelin’ and deelin’.

I sometimes wish that I had parents that could contribute to my lavish wedding plans, but then I wake up.

My friend, be glad you aren’t having a Long Island wedding – it is costing me $20g (which is not too far from 10g euros)….mine is $53 a head….plus tax and tip comes out to $68 a head. That includes the food, but doesnt include the dj, flowers, tux, wedding dress, photographer BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH, i can go out for pages. And your venue choices sound much more beautiful!!!!

I’m watching a lot of my friends go through this wedding planning phase. It’s very possible to do things cheaper than the norm, but both parts of the couple have to be willing to make concessions. As for me, like Amanda, I know I’ll be funding my wedding on my own so it’ll be lovely and martha stuart style home made.
