Happy 2009

2009? That’s almost 2010! That can’t be right. Aren’t we supposed to have flying cars, eat an entire turkey in the form of a pill, and have our lives dominated by robots by the year 2010? That’s only 12 months away! Looks like we’ve got our work cut out for us.

Quick, what happened this past year? Well…

After a year and a half hiatus (which felt like an eternity), I resurrected my theatre company and staged two amazing productions that were very well received and even managed to turn a small profit. I celebrated my 2 year anniversary at HP, where – financial crisis notwithstanding – everything continues to go well as my workload steadily increases with each and every corporate acquisition (here’s hoping they renew my contract in September!). Even with my “full-time” job at HP, I’ve still found the time to appear in two feature-length films and lend my voice to some corporate videos, a few films, and a handful of animated projects. There was that whole presidential election thing (remember that?). Emily turned 2 years old and has passed more significant developmental milestones than I could possibly remember (much less enumerate here), but most notably would probably be her ability to recite the entire alphabet (except for J), count to 12 (she can actually get to 20 sometimes but always skips 13 so that’s all she gets credit for), sing a dozen songs (some in tune!), sleep in a big-girl bed, ditch the diapers and officially attain potty-trainedness, and the fact that she started school and is loving it. As a family, we traveled to Florida, the island of Jersey, England, Italy, Florida (again), and England (again) for a total of about 25,000 air miles (40,000 km). Jan and I both celebrated birthdays (and failed to exchange gifts) and our 3 year wedding anniversary (gifts were exchanged), I did a bunch of push-ups and then gave up, Jan almost killed an old woman with a plant pot, and a successful repeat performance of the popular Egg Fertilization Suite in B Minor was achieved (is that too abstract a reference?).

It was a good year.

The inaudible and noiseless foot of Time marches on. From all of us here to all of you there, Happy New Year.

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin

  1. Oh, she is just delicious! Saying “Octopus” is very impressive, too. Does she only speak with Jan’s accent? Or does she get a little longisland in there from time to time?

Have a happy, healthy, wonderful New Year, Zam fam!

    1. Very interesting, the whole accent thing. A neutral third party observed that Emily speaks with more of an American accent when she talks to me and more British when with Jan. I don’t know. But I have officially won the battles of ladybug, sidewalk, zebra, and tomato, while gracefully conceding dummy, knickers, nappy, and lift. The war is still to be won…

      Happy New Year!!!!!1!!one!

  2. Me and my family hope that “almost 2010” is even better for you, Jan and Emily. And probably will be wonderful, with the arrival of another member in the family!

  3. My only objection is that the term “cat” was used to describe mother’s pet, “Schlomo.”. We all know that he is really a robot alien and that Killer is the most awesome cat in all of America.
