Intro #8

I speak very good Spanish. Up until about a month ago, I didn’t think so. People would always say to me, “Josh, you speak very good Spanish” but I never believed them. I thought they were just being nice. But I do. I have learned a lot since I arrived and now I speak quite well. The thing, though, that sets me apart from other people trying to learn the language is my accent. I can speak Spanish without the painfully obvious foreign accent that makes most foreigners easy to pick out in a crowded room. Sure, I still have a lot to learn as far as vocabulary and grammar go, but a good accent is much harder to achieve. I know people who have lived here for over five years and when they speak Spanish, as fluent as their grammar is, the hair on the back of my neck still stands on end. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve always enjoyed playing around with funny accents and voices or because I have an ear for things like this. I’m far from fluent, but I’ve definitely got a good start. OK, now to the good stuff…
