Getting The Puta Ready

Today was my last day of (relative) freedom for the next month and a half so I have been trying to cross off as many items from my long-term ‘to do’ list as possible. I say that I had a free day, but that just means that I could choose which jobs to tackle instead of being forced to do something – it’s still work. So I decided to work on the Puta Madre and get her ready for Edinburgh.

Step one was our Black Custard Theatre web site. Since The Fringe programme has already been launched as is now available to the public at large, people have been checking out our website which, up until now, consisted of a giant skull and crossbones with a tiny email link below it. This wasn’t going to convince any random theatre-goers to buy tickets to our show so I have spent the last week revamping our company’s site. I usually play the part of the humble programmer and I get someone else to do the beautiful design work, but I was on my own for this one. I built her from the ground up and I’m pretty happy with it. What do you think?

The next project in the queue was preparing our CD. We’ve recorded the play with the hopes that someone will actually want to buy it. I’ve spent much of this week at my friend Joe’s house while he helps us mix and master the recording. Once he’s done, I’ll have the glorious job of burning all 150 copies that we hope to sell. Fun! Today I sat down to create the CD sticker and liner notes. Most of the design work had already been done a couple years ago by my sister Rebecca and Chris’s son Clancy when we first produced the play here in Barcelona. But the cast has since changed and the stakes are now higher so it needed a face lift. Anyone wanna buy a CD of the show? Limited quantities are available!

The only thing left to do before we head on up to Scotland on August 1st is finalize the flyer and poster design. We’ve hired a pro to handle this one. It should be finished sometime in the next few days. I’ll post of copy of it when it’s done. But I must warn you: our publicity is designed to convince anyone and everyone to buy a ticket to our show so we will not be held responsible for your uncontrollable urge to fly to Edinburgh and see the show.

  1. I wish you all the best, much fun and much love over the next week.

I wish I could be there. I will visit as soon as I can…

  2. i noticed you used the original clip art skull rather than one we altered to make it meaner… do you not have that image? it’s vector so it’s crazy good quality-wise. I can send it to you but only after my computer is connected in my new apartment.

  3. @Marli – We wish you could be here, as well. The idea of having the whole family here with us in Barcelona has proven to be too good to be true. But you will be in our thoughts… and missed.

@zeekster – Yeah, I kinda lost that mean lookin’ skull that you made for us. I would have loved to use it, but we were in a huge rush and had to get it done like last year. If you could send me whatever you have, I’d love to use it if we ever resurrect the show in the future.
