Big Girl

Today, just six weeks after Emily joined our family, the ladies celebrated by attending their weekly pediatrician visit. To show us what a big girl she is, Emily decided to neither pee nor poop nor spit up on the doctor for the very first time! We’re very proud of her.

In another death-defying display of big-girliness, Emily allowed herself to be weighed. Our little prize fighter weighed in at exactly 5 kg (that’s 11 lbs for those keeping score in the US). Since Emily was born weighing 3.5 kg, that means that she has gained 1.5 kg in six weeks – a 43% increase! If she continues to gain weight at the same rate that she has already proven herself capable, when she is 1 year old she should weigh approximately 16.5 kg (or 36 lbs). We may have to move up a size in diapers.

  1. I know you were just waiting for someone to say this… but at that rate she’ll be a nice 211.5 on her sweet sixteen!

  2. We went to the doctor for Ella’s 3 month visit today – she tips the scales at 12.4 lbs, 22.25 inches long. She got some shots and didn’t even cry – we were so proud. Your post about the Passport got my ass in gear to get Ella’s going – we shall start with her US and once that is sorted, move on to her UK one. So much paperwork! Anyway, Emily is getting cuter all the time!

  3. Rebecca, I’m very happy that you were able to follow the established formula. Seriously. A lesser mathematician would have calculated 264 kg for her Sweet 16. We’re now proud of you, too.

  4. Way to go Emily. I am so proud of all of you. Emily for smiling so nicely and not pooping or peeing on the nice doctor, Rebecca for being the math wiz and Jan and Josh for being the parents of the year!!
    Yes, that’s my family!
    Love you all,
    Nana Adrian

  5. She. Is. So. CUTE!

I can’t wait to meet her. And see you and Jan being parents… almost makes it seem like our generation should be grownups or something… naw.

  6. yea, rebecca – wanna tutor me in math cause i suck at it

out of curiousity, how many times has she been to the doctor that she’s left “herself” on him?

  7. Emily has been to the doctor about once a week for regular check ups. So this last one must have been her fourth or fifth visit. The first one was the most impressive with jet propelled mustard-like poo reaching clear across the room. Each subsequent visit has been a bit less eventful.

  8. Guys, she’s beautiful to look at! Seems to me Emily understands what a deal she got when she was born to you and therefore guaranteed a 100% boredom free family life. Enjoy yourselves for years to come!!
