Little Boy’s due date is officially February 26. That’s 13 days from today. Jan went to the doctor this morning for a routine check up.
Jan: Wassup. How am I doin’?
Lady Doctor: Let’s see…
[fiddle about]
LD: Looks like you’re already a bit dilated.
Jan: Whaaaaaaat?
LD: Yup. About a centimeter.
Jan: What does that mean?
LD: Well, he could show up in 10 hours or 10 days.
Jan: …
I wasn’t actually there for the conversation but that’s how I imagine it went down. Anyway… flabbergasted! Neither of us are really ready for this, but I guess one can never really be ready. It’s all good.
Have I mentioned that we’ll be doing this one from the comfort of our home? Yeah, a natural home birth. I could write a lengthy entry on this but I’ll just say that we’ve got a wonderful midwife ready to come by at a moment’s notice and Jan and I have been taking a course in HypnoBirthing. We’ve got a birthing pool ready to be inflated and filled and babysitters are lined up to keep Emily from stressing us out during labor. I’m totally psyched! Jan has been doing some wonderful preparations and all that’s left to do is sit back, relax, and welcome this lovely little boy into the world. Oh yeah, and give him a name.
Choosing a name has proven to be more difficult than any other facet of this pregnancy (at least for me). Between the two of us, we’ve managed to eek out a short list with 10 choices. It must be said that this list is 80% Jan and 20% me. I just couldn’t find any names out there that really inspired me. But I’m happy with what we’ve got at the moment. We’d love to know your opinion. Name our child!

Oh my god, I am so excited for Jan, you and Emily. Okay so onto a name. As I am the Nana, can I vote more than once?
Well here goes, all great names, so hard to choose. Of course, you can wait and see what he looks like and then decide, or wait until school and he can pick his own name.
The ones I think I like the best are, Sebastian, Alexander, Gabriel and Nathan. Okay, I can’t wait to hear, I am calling now.

In response to James … strange you’d mention the name Caleb. Last night I went to see Kings of Leon, and the show was cancelled due to lead singer Caleb’s being ill. Cue sobbing in the street by all ticket holders. I then told Josh maybe they should name the baby Caleb, and Josh said maybe not seeing as it was due to him that the show was cancelled. That’s at least one Caleb who wasn’t living up to his name!
I love Sebastian, and Alexander too. Gabriel is a good one too. You can see I like names that have lots of syllables that can be shortened at will and used in full when you are cross!! For example, Daniel is usually only called Daniel when being told off (that’ll be most of the time then). Good luck and we want regular progress reports via Facebook please during labour! I am a willing babysitter, and have a car if you ever need it.
I like Alexander for the name of my 1st cousin (twice removed)!!
