Sebastian Has The Bubons

Here is the menu that Sebastian can expect to enjoy for the foreseeable future:

Amoxicillin – for a particularly pusy throat infection
Ibuprofen – for the miserable fever that accompanies the aforementioned infection
Ferrous Sulfate – for a mysteriously low iron count, and possibly the reason for his chronic loose stools
Tobramycin drops – for a sticky case of conjunctivitis
Mebendazole – for a cheerful case of pinworms

It was very thoughtful of Sebastian to only contract the most contagious diseases possible. Thanks, Sebastian.

Poor little guy. I’m happy to report that he’s feeling much better today than he was two days ago when we brought him to the doctor and he was shivering uncontrollably from his impressive fever. He still suffers from the occasional coughing fit and he won’t/can’t sleep or eat with any regularity, but he’s definitely on the mend. We thank you for your prayers.

By the way, the Bubons is just a funny way of saying he has the Bubonic Plague. It’s hyperbole. Thanks, John Stewart!

  1. Poor Sabastian!

So glad to hear he´s on the mend?

And yes. There is much power behind a genuine, heart-felt prayer. I hope mine will help in Sebastian making a full & speedy recovery.

    Thinking of you all.

  2. We were hoping for new posts, but never expected this one. The power of prayer is amazing. We will add in and ask others as well.
We wish Sebastian a swift recovery, and the rest of the family, we wish humor to forge on trhough. Perhaps while you are all stuck at home and as Sebastian begins to feel a bit better, a home video may help to cure the stuck at home blues.
We love you, all of you. GG and Amy are almost there, fun is on the way.
    Love Mom and Phil

  5. Thanks for the prayers, guys. But for you and anyone else who can’t be bothered to read the New York Times article, it basically talks about a scientific study that suggests prayers actually hurt. Three groups of patients: one control group, one group that is prayed for but doesn’t know, and one group that is prayed for and knows it. The first two groups recover exactly the same. The ones who know they are being prayed for do worse. Makes sense to me.

    1. Oh dear, seems like ivé started something here…? So, as i sent out the first `prayer- related post´ i felt it only right i should comment to the above? Yes. I did actually read the article. And yes, although it did indeed confirm the above findings it also stated; “In their report, the researchers suggested that this finding might also be a result of chance.”

It´s always a matter of personal opinion. Which i respect entirely. However, i personally do beleive in the `power of prayer´ & don´t understand how `asking/hoping for `good, positive´ things for a person can be deemed as a `bad/negative´act; Surely it´s just part of human-nature, looking out for the ones you care about & generally wishing them well???

Bob Barth, the spiritual director of Silent Unity, the Missouri prayer ministry, said the findings would not affect the ministry’s mission.

“A person of faith would say that this study is interesting,” Mr. Barth said, “but we’ve been praying a long time and we’ve seen prayer work, we know it works, and the research on prayer and spirituality is just getting started.”

      …Just saying…? x

      1. Your prayers are very welcome, Gigi. They absolutely show that you care very much. I just won’t tell Sebastian that he’s being prayed for as per the results of the study, which, like I said, make sense to me. If someone believes that an outside force will work to make them better, they don’t need to work as hard to recover. That’s how I interpret the results of the study. I am, however, a very strong believer in the power of positive thinking. I believe in the curing (and damaging) power of the mind. So anything to get the little boy (and anyone) into a positive state of mind would be beneficial. Oh, and Sebastian’s feeling much better today than he was a few days ago. So I’m very grateful for any force that worked to help him get better 🙂
